Italy: Amalfi

A village of a million steps, just like Atrani, Amalfi is a beautiful little seaside town...albeit MUCH more tourist-filled. Most of the restaurants of the region are located here, and we found some awesome fresh pizza and gelato!

Pre-lunch: Yes, we had dessert before lunch...

After exploring Amalfi town, and getting fat and happy off of gelato and pizza, we opted to rent beach chairs for the afternoon to relax and sip on some wine. The beaches here are NOT sand, and the waters were a bit frigid due to it being Fall. This practically gave us the place to ourselves, and it was great. I can only imagine the chaos and competition during tourist season! No, thank you.

Italy: Ravello

While our beautiful little town (Atrani) and Amalfi are nestled on the coast, there are many towns that are hidden away on top of the cliffs overlooking the sea. The town above Atrani is Ravello, and we ventured a nice long hike up to it and back down via a different path. I don't think that I have EVER hiked this many steps in a day. By the end my legs were numb and shaking, in a wonderful way.

It is a breathtaking journey to, around, and back down from Ravello, and a "must do" if you are in the region. That being said, you will need some stamina and basic fitness ability.

We sat at a little cafe on the main square of Ravello for a few hours, quietly enjoying sharing a bottle or two of wine, and watching the world pass by. It was blissfully perfect.

Then came the descent from Ravello to Amalfi, and its billions of steps:

After this day, I definitely felt that I was good to skip the "leg day" portion of my workouts for a while.

Italy: The Voyage Along the Amalfi Coast

From Florence, we took a train to the coast, where we then caught a ferry to Amalfi. Amalfi is the name of the region and the infamous city in the center of the region. Interestingly, there is a little town immediately adjacent to Amalfi, that is seriously a 5 minute walk through a mountain tunnel, called Atrani. We opted to stay here because there were many more available rooms (i.e. less people!) AND it was significantly cheaper...for just for a 5 minute walk.

Please, do yourself a favor, if ever traveling to this region: Figure out how to get there by boat.
The fresh salt air blowing through your hair and filling your lungs, immediately make you forget all the stress and worries in the world, and the views are incredible. While the day was rather cloudy, it was still was absolutely perfect.

Amalfi

For our first walk between Amalfi to Atrani, we did not know about the short-cut passage through the mountain, so we walked along the coast. It was twice a long, but who cares....look at these views!

Atrani

We stayed in an AirBnB while in Atrani, so we had ample space and the ability to cook for ourselves. Our place had THREE separate balconies, so we had plenty of gorgeous views! They were a wonderful place to end the day sipping on wine and start the day with a nice cup of coffee.
